Hormone therapy has been one of the most misunderstood and miseducated topics in women’s health for decades. Most women walk into a provider’s office with no framework for what they are being offered, no way to evaluate whether the recommendation is driven by science or financial incentive, and no one explaining what is actually happening inside their body.
Bioidentical hormones are changing that conversation but first, you have to understand what they actually are.

What Are Bioidentical Hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are molecules that are structurally identical to the hormones your body naturally produces. It’s not similar, not derived from but identical, down to the molecular level.
That distinction matters more than most people realize because your body does not just respond to hormones generally. It responds to specific molecular shapes that fit into specific receptor sites like a key into a lock. When the molecule is wrong, the fit is off and so is the response.
Where Did Bioidentical Hormones Start?
The history of bioidentical hormones goes back further than most people expect. Over a thousand years ago, Chinese physicians were the first to document hormone use by collecting urine from young men and women, drying it into a powder, and administering it to the aristocracy.
Those early preparations were bioidentical in the truest sense because the hormones present in human urine are the same ones the body produces naturally.
Modern hormone therapy took a different turn in the mid-1940s when the pharmaceutical industry began collecting urine from pregnant mares to produce what became known as Premarin.
It helped millions of women over several decades but Dr. Rosensweet argues that roughly half of what was in those pills had never existed inside a human body. That gap is what pushed him and his team toward a better question: Why give women something foreign when you could give them the exact molecule their ovaries already make?
The answer came through plant science. Soy and wild yam contain a compound called diosgenin that can be biochemically transformed into hormones molecularly identical to those produced by human ovaries and testes.
What Do Bioidentical Hormones Solve?
Your gonadal hormones, namely estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, govern far more than reproduction. They regulate:
- How your brain processes information
- How your bones maintain density
- How your muscles hold strength
- How your body manages sleep, mood, libido, and temperature
When these hormones decline, everything they were quietly holding together starts to be impacted. For roughly 80% of women, that decline becomes life-disrupting somewhere in their forties. The decline gradually shows as:
- Brain fog
- Disrupted sleep
- Mood shifts
- Cognitive changes
- Gradual loss of drive
What’s tricky is it’s easy to normalize these symptoms but should never be ignored. Bioidentical hormone replenishment addresses these symptoms at their biochemical root by restoring the exact molecules the body has lost. It is delivered in a way that most closely replicates how the body would release them naturally.
CODE Health and Dr. Daved Rosensweet Are Spreading Awareness on Bioidentical Hormones
CODE Health has always been built on one principle that the body has an extraordinary capacity to restore itself when given the right information. That mission is exactly what brought Dr. Daved Rosensweet into the CODE Conscious Conversations family.
Dr. Lisa and Wendy of CODE have been advocates of Dr. Rosensweet’s work based on their positive experience in his care. By bringing him into the C3 podcast, the CODE team hopes to spread more awareness on hormone health and how it’s supposed to be addressed.
In our latest episode together, Dr. Rosensweet breaks down not only what bioidentical hormones are and why they matter, but why the delivery method your provider recommends reveals more about their knowledge than anything else.
He also shares what precision hormone replenishment actually looks like when it is done right and why getting your hormones in order is the foundational step before anything else will work the way you want it to.
We also cover:
✅ Why hormone decline starts at 20 and most women don’t feel it until their 40s.
✅ Why pellets are one of the most financially driven and biologically flawed delivery methods on the market.
